Cockroach in the hotel

A beautiful speech by Sundar Pichai - an IIT-MIT Alumnus and Global Head Google Chrome:

The cockroach theory for self development

At a restaurant, a cockroach suddenly flew from somewhere and  sat on a lady.

She started screaming out of fear.

With a panic stricken face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach.

Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group also got panicky.

The lady finally managed to push the cockroach away but ...it landed on another lady in the group.

Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the drama.

The waiter rushed forward to their rescue.

In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter.

The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behavior of the cockroach on his shirt.

When he was confident enough, he grabbed it with his fingers and threw it out of the restaurant.

Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, the antenna of my mind picked up a few thoughts and started wondering, was the cockroach

responsible for their histrionic behavior?

If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed?

He handled it near to perfection, without any chaos.

It is not the cockroach, but the inability of the ladies to handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach that disturbed the ladies.

I realized that, it is not the shouting of my father or my boss or my wife that disturbs me, but it's my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their shouting that disturbs me.

It's not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that disturbs me.

More than the problem, it's my reaction to the problem that creates chaos in my life.

Lessons learnt from the story:

I understood, I should not react in life.

I should always respond.

The woman reacted, whereas the waiter responded.

Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always well thought of.

A beautiful way to understand                       LIFE.

Coffee on the Wall

Coffee on the Wall

I sat with my friend in a well-known coffee shop in a neighbouring town of Venice (Italy), the city of lights and water. As we enjoyed our coffee, a man entered and sat at an empty table beside us. He called the waiter and placed his order saying, ‘Two cups of coffee, one of them there on the wall.’
We heard this order with rather interest and observed that he was served with one cup of coffee but he paid for two.

As soon as he left, the waiter pasted a piece of paper on the wall saying ‘A Cup of Coffee’.

While we were still there, two other men entered and ordered three cups of coffee, two on the table and one on the wall. They had the two cups of coffee but paid for three and left. This time also, the waiter did the same; he pasted a piece of paper on the wall saying, ‘A Cup of Coffee’.

It was something unique and perplexing for us. We finished our coffee, paid the bill and left.

After a few days, we had a chance to go to this coffee shop again. While we were enjoying our coffee, a man poorly dressed entered. As he seated himself, he looked at the wall and said, 'One cup of coffee from the wall'.
The waiter served coffee to this man with the customary respect and dignity. The man had his coffee and left without paying.

We were amazed to watch all this, as the waiter took off a piece of paper from the wall and threw it in the dust bin. Now it was no surprise for us – the matter was very clear. The great respect for the needy shown by the inhabitants of this town made our eyes well up in tears.

Ponder upon the need of what this man wanted... He enters the coffee shop without having to lower his self-esteem… he has no need to ask for a free cup of coffee… without asking or knowing about the one who is giving this cup of coffee to him. He only looked at the wall, placed an order for himself, enjoyed his coffee and left.

... probably the most beautiful wall you may ever see anywhere....!!!

What is knowledge????

During a robbery in Guangzhou, China, the bank robber shouted to everyone in
the bank: "Don't move. The money belongs to the State. Your life belongs to
you."

Everyone in the bank laid down quietly.
This is called "Mind Changing Concept" Changing the conventional way of thinking.

When a lady lay on the table provocatively, the robber shouted at her:
"Please be civilized! This is a robbery and not a rape!"

This is called "Being Professional" Focus only on what you are trained to
do!

When the bank robbers returned home, the younger robber (MBA-trained) told
the older robber (who has only completed Year 6 in primary school): "Big
brother, let's count how much we got."

The older robber rebutted and said: "You are very stupid. There is so much
money it will take us a long time to count. Tonight, the TV news will tell
us how much we robbed from the bank!"

This is called "Experience." Nowadays, experience is more important than
paper qualifications!

After the robbers had left, the bank manager told the bank supervisor to
call the police quickly. But the supervisor said to him: "Wait! Let us take
out $10 million from the bank for ourselves and add it to the $70 million
that we have previously embezzled from the bank".

This is called "Swim with the tide." Converting an unfavorable situation to
your advantage!

The supervisor says: "It will be good if there is a robbery every month."

This is called "Killing Boredom." Personal Happiness is more important than
your job.

The next day, the TV news reported that $100 million was taken from the
bank. The robbers counted and counted and counted, but they could only count
$20 million. The robbers were very angry and complained: "We risked our
lives and only took $20 million. The bank manager took $80 million with a
snap of his fingers.
It looks like it is better to be educated than to be a
thief!"

This is called "Knowledge"

The Way world works.

Masterpiece on economics
One day a tourist comes to the only hotel in a debt ridden town .

Lays a 100 dollar note on the table & goes to inspect the rooms.

Hotel owner takes the note & rushes to pay his debt to the butcher.

Butcher runs to pay the pig farmer. Pig farmer runs to pay the feed supplier.

Supplier runs to pay the prostitute, who in these hard times gave her services on credit.

Hooker then runs to pay off her debt to the hotel owner for the rooms she rented for her clients.

Hotel owner then lays the 100 dollar note back on the counter.

The tourist comes down, takes his money & leaves as he did not like the rooms.

No one earned anything.
But the town is now without debt & looks to the future with a lot of optimism.

And that is how the world is doing business today!

Logic of failure ~ Congress food security

This govt has systematically broken the spine of the country, here read it for enlightment "
An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that congress food security bill will worked and that no one would sleep without food .
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on congress plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (that means tax collected from us will be used for food security bill expensed. i.e equally distribution ).
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.
Can you think of a reason for not sharing this?
